Stay up to date on what is happening at Maplewood Farm!

Our Sweet Boy Snicklefritz

Snicklefritz was our oldest resident at Maplewood Farm, born in 1997. He came to us from Gabriola Island and has been part of the farm family since 2002. Over time, he outlived many of the animals who once shared the farm with him.

In his younger years, Snicklefritz helped bring joy to countless visitors as one of our pony ride ponies. After retiring from that role, he spent his days enjoying a well-earned retirement with his best buddy, Frodo.

For most of his life, Snicklefritz remained relatively healthy. The main challenge we managed were his lack of teeth, which meant he couldn’t […]

We said goodbye to our pig, Rosie

We said goodbye to one of our pigs, Miss Rosie.

Rosie was estimated to be around 10–13 years old and was one of three pigs living here at the farm. Her sister, Petal, sadly passed away a few years ago due to ovarian cancer, which is unfortunately very common in female pigs as they age.

Kai & Suzy’s Move

Kai and Suzy have both been part of our farm family for quite some time. Kai came to us extremely weak, underweight, and unwell. We’re incredibly proud of how far he has come with the care and support he’s received here.

As they’ve grown stronger, it’s become clear that the farm is no longer the right fit for these two. They need more space and more hands-on training than we’re able to provide.

We’re happy to share that Kai and Suzy have been accepted at Second Chance Cheekye Ranch, where they’ll have the room to stretch their legs, along with the training […]

Equestrian Dental Check-up

Did you know that animals need regular dental checkups too? 🐴🦷

Our horses, ponies, and donkey just had their teeth floated! During a dental float, the vet carefully examines their mouths, smooths out sharp edges, levels uneven teeth, and addresses any issues. This visit even included one extraction.

One of our oldest ponies, Snicklefritz, who is 28 years old, has hardly any teeth left! As horses age, dental care becomes even more important to keep them comfortable and able to eat properly.

For the procedure, the horses are given light sedation to keep them relaxed and safe while the vet completes the dental […]
