Yesterday, our 9 sheep had their big haircut and officially lost their winter jackets! Did you know that sheep need to be shorn every year? Without shearing, their wool continues to grow and can cause them to overheat during the warmer summer months. Thick wool can also collect dirt, moisture, and debris, which may lead to skin problems and discomfort.

From just one year of wool growth, we filled two wheelbarrows full of fleece! Some sheep can grow several pounds of wool each year depending on the breed.

Shearing is an important part of keeping sheep healthy and comfortable. After being shorn, sheep are usually much cooler, cleaner, and happier heading into spring and summer.

Our flock did fantastic during shearing day, and they are now ready to enjoy the sunshine! ☀️🐑
