Family Day Fun at Maplewood Farm

On BC’s first Family Day plan on bringing everyone out to Maplewood Farm. We invite you to come and see Judy’s new calf, born just last week, and take pony rides! For only $5.00 Krokur will take children on trips around the natural pond and over bridges. These are first-come, first served so let us know you want one as soon as you get here as they will be popular.

We will be open from 10am to 4pm.
We look forward to seeing you there!

Help us Name our New Baby Cow

On Tuesday night there was a lot of excitement at Maplewood Farm. Our cow Judy had a bull calf!

We had not checked on her for a short time because it didn’t look like she was going to have the baby for a while, but when we went to check on her at 8:30, there he was! Judy, a very independent Hereford cow, had the baby all by herself. He was racing around the stall, kicking up his heels, and having a ball.

The calf is 65 lbs and both him and his mother are doing very well. He is nursing from Judy, so we have to make sure that she is eating well enough to produce lots of milk for him. We didn’t get to help Judy out very much with this calving, but in late March, when our Jersey calving happens, we will have much more to do.

We will keep Judy and the calf inside for a few days, and then start putting them outside with the other cows when the weather is decent. The only problem is we can’t seem to think of a name for the baby cow. If you have any suggestions, let us know!
