Behind the Scenes April 2014

Howdy! Welcome to Maplewood Farm

Situated near Mount Seymour and about a 20 minute drive from downtown Vancouver,we offer a unique and enjoyable time for all ages in a rural heritage setting on 2 hectares (5 acres) in North Vancouver.

The Maplewood Farm is a fun—and educational—place to visit for the whole family. Developed historically from its early days as a thriving dairy, today the Farm has been preserved offering a truly rural experience, among the expanding city limits, with a wonderful collection of over 200 domestic and friendly farm animals and birds.

If you’re looking for a children’s farm for a family day out, this is the place to visit. Families can come picnic and play together under our  covered picnic areas, children can visit our farm friends, meet the farm hands, ride a pony and pedal tractor,
feed animals
, and even get an animal autograph.

If you enjoyed the farm experience, become a supporter and come back more often by signing up for a family membership.

Check back regularly on our news and events blog to find out about upcoming events and what’s happening at the farm.

We are an exceptional choice for school and day camp visits. We have self-guided tour maps so you can tailor the visit to your curriculum. We are a popular choice for children’s birthday parties, so reserve your spot early! Maplewood Farm also takes bookings for group visits and special events.

Come on in and enjoy!

Canada’s Economic Action Plan- Improving Community Infrastructure

Grant Project UPDATE:

In 2012, the District was successful in receiving a Community Infrastructure Improvement Grant. This federal funding is helping the District to initiate new projects at Maplewood Farm. With matching funding from the District of North Vancouver, the funds will be targeted to the following areas:

  • Addition of a multi-purpose room to the existing Visitor’s Centre Building for workshops and display space
  • New washroom facility to replace old washroom structure
  • Addition of six new covered viewing shelters with interpretive signage
  • Addition of new Goat Playground area for the goats

Construction started on Monday October 21, 2013 with completion anticipated for mid-March, 2014. Maplewood Farm will remain open through the process. It is expected that there will be some disruption to our operation in regard to public safety. There may be times when normally accessible areas are cordoned off. We are excited about the coming improvements and hope to minimize any inconvenience to you, our valued customers and members. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions and concerns.

Current areas of the farm affected:

Visitor Centre: Limited Merchandise out on display due to upgrade and expansion of building to include a new multi-purpose, heated, community use room.

Washrooms: Old building is being completely replaced and rebuilt. Temporary facilities, including wheelchair accessible washrooms, are located on the Southern edge of the white Storage Barn, near our hand-washing station.

Other areas of the farm may be temporarily blocked off for both animal and visitor safety as construction takes place. Please check the website for details.
